For insurance agents, Pay-as-you-go, or PayGo, is a simple way to give workers’ compensation clients more accurate premium amounts, fewer audit surprises, and a smoother billing experience, without adding work to your plate.

To set expectations for your insureds with confidence, here’s what happens from when you first deliver a quote, to the first payroll submission.

The Insurance Agent’s Role: Quote and Bind

When you’re quoting workers’ comp coverage, select Pay-as-you-go as the billing option for eligible accounts.

Once the workers’ comp policy is bound:

  • Confirm the Pay-as-you-go setup on the policy.
  • The policy is then passed to InsurePay, your Pay-as-you-go partner, for onboarding.

At this point, your role is complete. Your carrier partner and InsurePay handle the rest of the workflow with your client.

InsurePay’s role: Automated Welcome and Easy Onboarding

Soon after binding, the policyholder receives an email from InsurePay welcoming them to Pay-as-you-go.

That email includes:

  • A secure link to set up their InsurePay account
  • Simple, descriptive steps to connect their payroll provider to InsurePay
  • Clear contact information for support

From there, policyholders move through a guided onboarding flow where they:

  • Create their InsurePay login in a few easy steps
  • Connect their payroll provider
  • Confirm their business and policy details

Most complete onboarding in just a few minutes, without needing technical help from you.

First Payroll and Ongoing Benefits

After onboarding is complete and the first payroll runs:

  • Payroll data is sent directly to InsurePay from the payroll provider anytime payroll is run
  • The premium due for that period is calculated automatically
  • Payment is collected automatically the following day.

Pay-as-you-go then runs quietly in the background, keeping premiums aligned with actual exposure and helping reduce audit surprises for your clients.

For you, that means fewer “how does this work?” questions, a smoother billing experience, and stronger client retention. We’ve seen customers see up to a 9% improvement in retention of their book when using Paygo for workers’ comp.
