It’s that time of year again, the holiday season! While some people start breaking out the holiday decorations on November 1, I prefer to wait until the day after Thanksgiving (and they stay up until Jan 2!). No matter what day you choose to start your holiday prepping, it can be hard to get into the holiday spirit when you work remotely. Luckily, there are a few tricks you can use to make your space a bit merrier and brighter this holiday season! While fruitcake and candy canes are optional in the workplace, you may want to leave the spiked ‘nog in the kitchen.

Bring a festive feeling to your remote office space.

If you’re a minimalist, you may want to start small. Set your computer wallpaper to something more festive (Microsoft has a bunch to choose from!) You could even download one of the live wallpapers with animations like falling snow or twinkling lights or use a holiday-themed screensaver. If you want to really deck the halls, you can spruce up your home office with some of the following ideas:

  • A Christmas cactus, or Poinsettia to brighten up your work space.
  • Festive decorations for your desk and walls.
  • Lights and garlands around the office space.
  • A holiday music playlist.
  • Holiday scents: candles, potpourri, plug-in portable scents, or air freshener sprays.

Create your own holiday cheer!

You can go to the store and buy pre-made holiday décor or create your own holiday magic by adding your own personal touches! Personally, I love all things crafty or DIY, and the holidays are a great time to really let your creative juices flow! Whether you’re going for subtle and understated, or over the top, the internet is full of great ideas for crafting your own holiday cheer.
